Abstract

1510315 Web splicing apparatus EASTMAN KODAK CO 1 April 1975 [1 April 1974] 13242/75 Heading B8R A web splicing apparatus comprises a splicing tape on the leading end, Fig. 3, of the new web roll and having a weaker inner adhesive layer 18 and an outer stronger adhesive layer 18 for adhering to the trailing end of an expiring web and, a sensing means 42 Fig. 6 responsive to the splicing tape for positioning the leading end in a stationary pre-splicing position, moving and urging means 52, 54, for moving the near web roll and the expiring web relative to one another to cause the new web roll to rotate before the tape contacts the expiring web. Apparatus further includes severing means 68, 70 which sever the expiring web and the roller 52 causes the severed trailing end to be spliced to the tape. The sensing means 42 includes three photoelectric, magnetic or fluidic sensor which sense the periphery, leading end of the new web roll and also the end edge (48, Fig. 6A) to position the web roll accurately at the stationarypre-splicingposition. The leading end includes a metallic strip 20, Fig. 3.
