Abstract

1510139 Plate heat exchangers BORGWARNER CORP 12 Dec 1975 [16 Jan 1975] 51019/75 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a stack of hollow plates 11 each with undulated plate surfaces provided, e.g. by elongate protrusions 18 angled with respect to the flow direction of an air stream passing between adjacent hollow plates, at least one plate element 21 is disposed between each adjacent pair of the hollow plates to turbulize the air stream. Preferably the turbulizing plates 21 are of heat conductive material or are bonded to the hollow plates to constitute additional heat exchange surfaces. The turbulizing plates may be plane (Fig. 5), louvred (Figs. 6, 7) perforated (Figs. 8 and 11), or as shown they may have tabs 25 punched out and bent at an angle to the plate surface and also oriented at an angle to the air stream flowing thereover. Or the plates may have hemispherical protrusions thereon, Figs. 9 and 10.
