Abstract
1510126 Measuring strain LOUGHBOROUGH CONSULTANTS Ltd 3 Oct 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 43434/74 Heading G1N An apparatus for measuring torsional strain in a rotating shaft comprises a strain gauge mounted on the shaft and being connected in a bridge circuit Fig. 3, (not shown), the output voltage of the bridge being converted into a frequency signal which is transmitted to a stationary circuit through an inductive coupling. A.C. power is fed to the shaft mounted circuitry through a pair of relatively rotatable coils 21, 37, the coil 21 associated with the shaft having a core 19 including a pair of cylindrical flanges 15, 17, which co-operate with arcuate recesses Fig. 1, (not shown), in respective arms 25, 27 of the core of the coil 37. The power is rectified before being applied to the strain gauge bridge circuit (Fig. 3). The pulses from the shaft circuitry are in the stationary circuit converted from frequency to voltage for display on a meter Fig. 4, (not shown). The pulses may be fed to a digital display. The accuracy of the bridge may be checked by placing a calibration resistance into the bridge this being effected by a signal from a photocell mounted on the shaft on receiving light from a stationary source, (Figs. 3, 4).
