1509557 Methanation catalysts IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 May 1976 [15 May 1975 2 Dec 1975] 20621/75 and 49455/75 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions B 1 and F4] Catalysts for the methanation of carbon oxides with hydrogen, the methanation being accompanied by the formation of hydrogen and carbon oxides by the steam reforming of a higher hydrocarbon or by the cracking of methanol, are made by reducing a catalyst precursor in the form of shaped units comprising a mixture of (a) finite particles of coprecipitated thermally decomposable compounds of Ni, Co and/or Fe, of a trivalent metal which has a difficultly reducible oxide, and/or thermal decomposition products of such compounds, with (b) finite carrier particles, the particles having sizes in the range 10<SP>2</SP>-10<SP>7</SP> Š.
