Abstract
1507968 Steam generators; tubular heat exchangers INTERATOM INTERNATIONAL ATOMREAKTORBAU GmbH 5 Nov 1976 [8 Nov 1975] 46231/76 Headings F4A nad F4S In a heat exchanger in which heating and heated fluids flow respectively in tubes 4, 9, all the tubes are embedded in a heat transfer mass 12 of copper particles (e.g. spherical particles of various sizes). Preferably an inert gas in which the heating and heated fluids are soluble is passed through the interstices between the particles. Monitoring of said gas can then be utilized to detect contaminants therein, e.g. of leakage fluid due to rupture of a tube wall, or of atmospheric air entering the casing 1 containing the heat exchange assembly. Preferably the tubes 4, 9 are alternately arranged in the assembly as shown in Fig. 2. In the steam generator shown, water is supplied via supply means 7, 8 to the tubes 9 in which the water is vaporized by sodium heated in a nuclear reactor and flowing in tubes 4. Steam from the tubes 9 is collected in a header 10 and discharged therefrom at 11. 15 is a contaminant detecting device for the inert gas (e.g. helium or nitrogen) supplied via a line 13 to the casing 1 and removed at 14. 17 is a pressure relief valve in the form of a rupturable disc.
