Abstract

1506267 Controlling rate of flow of flue gases WAMSLER HERD-UND OFEN GmbH 2 Dec 1975 [5 Dec 1974] 49537/75 Headings F4B and F4W The resistance to the flow of exhaust gases from a gas-fired heater is controlled in dependence on the chimney draught and exhaust gas temperature. In a conventionally flued gas fired heater having a downdraught diverter, a tapered sleeve 10 is inserted in the flue beyond the downdraught diverter, and a counter balanced flap valve 13 is arranged to pivot about pins 12 sliding in slots 11 so as to reduce the flue passage when the chimney draught increases. The pins 12 are moved in the slots 11 by a bi-metal coil 17 arranged so that the pivots 12 and hence the valve 13 are moved towards the narrow part of the sleeve 10 as the flue gas temperature falls. The arrangement should be adjusted so that no flue gas exits from the downdraught diverter and substantially no air is drawn into the downdraught diverter during normal operation, whatever the burner setting.
