Abstract

1505639 Cable glands BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 30 June 1975 [1 June 1974] 29144/74 Heading H2E A cable gland comprises a body 1, a spigot 2 and a backnut 16, all of metal, electrically connected to the sheath of a cable passing therethrough and electrically insulated from the wall 18 by insulation 11 on a shoulder of the body and on the spigot, and by an insulating ring 17 bonded to the backnut. The spigot and the portion 13 of the insulation 11 has a common external thread, the backnut and the insulating ring having a common internal thread. The insulation, which may be of plastics or ceramic material may be trapped between two screwable parts (Fig. 2, not shown) forming the spigot, held by an adhesive, formed by a coating process (Fig. 3, not shown), e.g. flame spraying in the case of ceramic material, or moulded in situ. The insulating material is preferably flame proof, i.e. has an oxygen index of not less than 30 and the interfitting parts are preferably connected in a flame proof manner.
