Abstract

1504059 Hydrogen sulphide removal SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 11 July 1975 [11 July 1974] 29245/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Hydrogen sulphide is recovered as sulphur. vapour from gases containing hydrogen sulphide in low concentrations, preferably 0À2 to 1% by volume, in a process in which the gas together with oxygen is passed over a catalyst consisting of one or more transition metal oxides and/or salts, preferably sulphides, on a porous support at a temperature of from 80‹ to 200‹ C.; the sulphur-laden catalyst is then swept with an oxygen free regeneration gas at a temperature of from 200‹ to 500‹ C. to remove sulphur vapour which may be condensed. The preferred metal oxides, sulphides or salts are those of W, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo, Ag and Mn. The regeneration gas may contain a reducing gas, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide or carbon monoxide and preferably is the hydrogen sulphide containing gas which is to be treated in the process, to which may be added a further 5 to 20% by volume of hydrogen sulphide.
