Abstract

1503309 Shock testing piping components VAPOR CORP 28 Jan 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 25406/77 Divided out of 1503308 Heading G1S A method of shock testing piping components (e.g. valves, regulators, heat exchangers) comprises inserting the component (48 or 49) in closed circuit piping 45 leading to and from a coil 24 of a hot water generator 20, circulating water through coil and piping by a pump 46 at a constant rate and rapidly operating a combustor of the generator between low and high firing rates; the temperature of the circulated water being made to rise as rapidly as possible while avoiding nucleation. The pump operates at a pre-set level and the output temperature of the water from the generator is used to control the firing rate. A heat exchanger 47 is inserted to load the system and the component to be tested can be inserted at positions 48 or 49. A number of generators can be connected together in parallel if required to feed the closed circuit piping. The hot water generator is the subject of the Parent Specification.
