Abstract

1503111 Shaft bearing HOWALDTSWERKE - DEUTSCHE WERFT AG HAMBURG UND KIEL 9 Jan 1976 [24 Jan 1975] 00786/76 Heading F2A A shaft bearing comprises a stationary casing having an upper part 6 and a lower part 5 which between them circumferentially enclose a portion of a rotatable shaft 1 provided with an annular disc 2, the lower part 5 forming an oil sump into which a portion of the disc dips and which portion in use forms a viscosity pump 9 formed by the inner wall 8 of the casing and the disc 2, oil distributer ducts 10, (11) being provided which are in communication with the pump 9 and of which some 10 lead to oil feeding nozzles 13 adapted to feed oil to the thrust bearings and the other distributer ducts (11) feed into the joint 14 between the two parts of the casing and are adapted to feed oil to radial bearings 4. The distributer duct for the thrust bearings 3 is preferably connected in the casing joint plane to a rectangular flange 16 which on its side facing the shaft is constructed as a oil stripper. Ducts 10 and 11 may be provided on both sides of the easing in order to ensure the supply of oil for bearings in the case of ships' shafts as direction of rotation can be reversed.
