Abstract

To produce the soil improvement material, organic wastes are comminuted, moistened with water or slurry and then compressed. The moistened waste materials are laid in layers one above the other on a soil conducting away water. Each individual layer is compressed and, with spacing, slots extending essentially to the vicinity of the soil are excavated from the layer block so formed. The installation for carrying out the process includes two walls (10) extending over the layer block length, arranged at a distance of the layer block width, between which walls is arranged soil (1) conducting away water. Furthermore, the installation includes movable devices (2, 3) such as suitable vehicles for laying the moistened waste materials (9) in layers on the soil or on top of each other, for compressing the layers (8), for cutting out slots (7) and for excavating the rotted material. The process and the installation enable the composting of very high amounts of refuse on relatively small areas, while the expenditure in terms of personnel and equipment can be kept extremely low. <IMAGE>
