Abstract

1502013 Flexural resonators CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 31 Jan 1975 [1 July 1974 (2) 25 Nov 1974] 4374/75 Heading H1E [Also in Division G3] A quartz flexural tuning fork oscillator comprises electrodes on both faces effective to cause vibration in the plane of the fork. The end of the fork is mounted by means of solder or an adhesive cement which provides electrical connections to the electrodes. The plate may be a Z-cut modified, e.g. by rotation about the X- axis through an angle of up to 15 degrees. Thus in a rectangular plate the length may be parallel to the Y<SP>1</SP> direction and the width parallel to the X direction. The signal field is predominantly parallel to the latter direction. Thus, in the resonator of Fig. 1, the arrangement of interdigitated electrodes 3a, 3b, 3a<SP>1</SP>, 3b<SP>1</SP> produces fields 13a, 13b opposed in direction on either side of the longitudinal axis of each tine of the fork. This causes flexural vibrations in the plane of the tines. The vibrator is tuned by removing parts of the loading plates 5a, 5b using a laser, thinner plates 6a, 6b being provided for fine tuning. It is attached to a pedestal 7 forming part of a capsule by solder or conductive cement 9.
