Abstract

1501542 Sealing bearings FORD AEROSPACE & COMMUNICATIONS CORP 9 Jan 1976 [10 Jan 1975] 00824/76 Headings F2B and F2A An oil slinger 22, for sealing a bearing 18, is made of a material which can absorb oil, which is centrifuged out to lubricate the bearing when it rotates, the slinger 22 being mounted on a shaft 11 which extends with clearance through an aperture in an end wall of a housing 14 of the bearing 18, the slinger being between the bearing and end wall and of a diameter greater than the aperture. As well as sealing the bearing 18 when the shaft 11 is stationary, by absorbing oil, the slinger 22 is constructed as a labyrinth seal. The slinger 22 is of porous sintered bronze or porous nylon. An oil slinger 22 may be provided at each end of the bearing 18.
