1501510 Hemispherical building structures F CREMASCHINI 6 March 1975 [8 April 1974] 9268/75 Heading E1A A hemispherical building structure such as a stadium comprises a first group of supporting members 1 positioned in radial planes intersecting in a single first, horizontal line passing through the centre of a sphere of radius equal to that of the structure; a second group of guiding members 2 superposed on and fixed to the first group and all positioned in radial planes intersecting a single second, horizontal line which passes through the centre of the sphere and is disposed at right-angles to said first line; each of the supporting and guiding members being anchored at their ends to a base ring 3 secured in the ground. The members 1 are in compression and the members 2 in tension and jointly support a concrete covering with a layer of sheet metal, tar or asphalt.
