1500554 Easy opening cans G B KLEIN 10 Sept 1975 37169/75 Heading B8D In a can having a "gated can lid" i.e. a panel 18 folded at 26, 28 to form a spacer strip 27 enabling the panel to be displaced inwardly to form an opening, the folds are interrupted at 32 so that the strip 27 occurs at only a portion of the periphery of the opening. When the opening is positioned off-centre and near to the seam 20 the seam 20 is not weakened by the action necessary to form the folds 26, 28. A score 30 facilitates the inward opening of the lid when finger pressure is applied. The panel 18 hinges about the interrupted part 32. The score 30 may be lanced along parts of, or along its entire length, and varnish like resin may be applied to the underside of the gate structure. Alternatively a wax-like substance may be applied to the top of the can aperture and which flows into the lanced opening and score line.
