1500480 Measuring tooth pitch optically BJURO VZAIMOZAMENYAEMOSTI I METALLOOBRA-BATYVAJUSCHE PROMYSHLENNOSTI 28 Jan 1976 03434/76 Heading G 1A To measure pitch errors in a gear-wheel 8 it is continuously rotated and a non-contacting sensor 7 produces a signal when a flank of each tooth is in a predetermined angular position, one of these signals triggers the transmission of a train of reference signals having an interval between signals equal to the time of rotation of the wheel through the correct pitch angle, and the time interval between each sensor signal and a corresponding one of the reference signals gives the pitch error of each tooth. The sensor 7 may comprise a photo-electric detector 12 and light source 11 or utilize a pneumatic or acoustic jet. The reference signals are derived from a photo-electric signal generator 15 via a multiplier 23 and divider 24, and their transmission to phase comparator 25 is triggered by synchronizing device 26. The comparator 25 opens and closes electronic switch 28 to allow a number of pulse signals from a second train of higher frequency from interpolation unit 27 to pass to counter 30, the said number being proportional to the pitch error. A sign determination unit 34 controls the polarity of the output voltage of the D/A converter 31 which is fed to recorder 32.
