Abstract

1500262 Ingot moulds; welding J O & R H BAIRD Ltd 19 May 1975 [8 Nov 1974] 48348/74 Headings B3F and B3R Two or more sections of a steel strap 16 are pressed against the outer surface of an ingot mould 14 by rams 15 and the ends of the sections welded together to form a continuous strap extending around the mould in a pressure fit thereon. The hydraulic rams 15 are mounted on a frame 10 consisting of two jaws 12 and 13 which can be clamped shut around the mould. The strap sections 16 may be preformed to a "U"-shape and are supported by means of a lip on a plate 17 at the end of each ram 15. The rams are actuated in sequence to bend the strap sections around the corners of the mould.
