Abstract
1499628 Forming composite yarns E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 27 Aug 1976 [29 Aug 1975] 35742/76 Headings D1F and D1W Heather e.g. pile fabric, yarn made of bulked continuous filament yarns having different colour and/or dye receptivity is produced by subjecting two or more component yarns having a total denier of 400 or more to a tension of 0.5-1.25 grms per denier in order to straighten-out the crimp therein (but without attenuation of the yarn material) and thereby disentangle and parallelize the filaments; the yarns (thus freed of entanglements and, optionally, wetted with water) are then fed through a fluid-jet entangling zone wherein they are randomly entangled and combined: the resultant heather yarn is withdrawn from the zone at a slower rate (4-30% overfeed) than the feed rate thereto so that the yarns are free of tension during intermingling. The initial (polyamide or polyester) yarns are previously crimped (bulked) e.g. by intermeshing gears, stuffer-box, hot-jet or by differential shrinkage between the elements of bicomponent filaments thereof, and are "twistless". As shown in Fig. 1, crimped component yarns 8, 10 and 12 supplied from bobbins 2. 4 and 6 converge through a guide 11 and are tensioned by repeated passage around draw rollers 14 and 18 and associated separator rolls 16 and 20 the disentangling action of which being augmented by use of snubbing pins 24. The yarns pass through water sprays emanating from nozzles 26, through a fluid jet 28 for intermingling (without twist) the filaments thereof and the final yarn 29 is withdrawn by wind-up roll 30. The jet, Fig. 2. comprises a body 31 traversed by yarn and fluid passageways 32 and 34, the former partially covered on the entry side by a yarn gate 36 having a smooth and a curved surface 38 to support and guide the yarns.
