Abstract

1499526 Arc rupturing in switches HAZEMEIJER BV 23 May 1975 [7 June 1974] 22792/75 Heading H1N An electric switch comprises a stationary contact 1, a movable contact 2, 3, and arcing contacts 8, 9, the arcing contacts being either secured to the fixed contact and co-operating with the movable contact or being secured to the movable contact and co-operating with the fixed contact, Fig. 7, not shown, and so arranged that on contact breaking the arcing contacts are the last to separate from their co-operating contact whilst, due to cams 4, 5, 14, 15 associated with the contacts, on contact making the arcing contacts make contact with their co-operating contact after the contact to which they are secured. In a first embodiment first cams 4, 5 are attached via resilient springs 6 to the fixed contact 1 and second cams 14, 15, are attached to the moving contact so that during contact making the second cams ride over the first cams moving the arcing contacts away from the other contacts but during contact breaking the second cams are forced under the first cams forcing the arcing contacts into contact with the fixed contact. In a second embodiment the cams are in the form of edge cams to which the arcing contacts are secured, and which are attached to the fixed contact, the cams running on the moving contact and so disposed under spring bias as to keep the arcing contact away from the other contacts but revolves at the start of contact separation to allow the arcing contact to move into contact with its co-operating contact during contact separation. The cams are made of insulating material.
