Abstract

1498391 Bayonet-joint safety cap INTERNATIONAL TOOLS (1973) Ltd 20 July 1976 30151/76 Heading B8T A bayonet-joint cap 16 comprises a unitary plastics sealing member 24 which is held captive by, but is not directly connected to, the remainder of the cap. Member 24 has annular flanges 28 and 36, the former overlying bayonet locking elements 22, and a resilient portion 29, 30. In use on a container, Fig. 2 (not shown), member 24 is axially compressed with flange 28 overlying and in contact with the rim of the container and flange 36 sealingly projecting into and contacting the inner surface of the mouth of the container, the axial compression of member 24 ensuring effective sealing and forcing the co-operating bayonet locking elements on cap and container in engagement. To remove the cap downward axial pressure thereon is required followed by rotation and member 24 is removed from sealing engagement with the container by locking elements 22.
