Abstract

1497787 Cooling towers; gas coolers; surface condensers SULZER-ESCHER WYSS GmbH 20 Aug 1976 [20 Aug 1975] 34819/76 Headings F4K and F4S [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A fan for a cooling tower, Fig. 1, an evaporative cooler or condenser (Fig. 2, not shown) or a cooling heat exchanger (Fig. 3, not shown) comprises a hub 9 and blades mounted on the hub, and a fan drive comprising a motor 13 and a belt drive 11 connecting the motor shaft to the hub, the fan drive being contained within the space defined by the projection, in a direction axial of the hub axis, of the hub silhouette. The belt is thereby protected from contact with the gas being moved by the fan. The fan drive includes a reduction gearing 10 and is enclosed in a casing 14. Cooling air enters the casing via perforations in the upper part of the casing or, as shown, via a pipe 15 connected to the ambient atmosphere and is drawn by the fan blades into the main flow via openings (not shown) in the bottom plate 7 of the casing 14 and openings 9a in the hub 9.
