Abstract

1495788 Gas - liquid contact apparatus HAMON-SOBELCO SA 28 Feb 1975 [11 March 1974] 8613/75 Heading F4K [Also in Division B1] In a gas-liquid contact unit used for heat exchange or dust removal purposes and comprising a stack of vertically corrugated sheets 10 alternating with planar sheets 2, each corrugated sheet has, in the direction of said corrugations, at least two zones in which the amplitude of the corrugations is different, said zones being interconnected by deformed parts of the sheet defining inclined surfaces serving to uniformly distribute and/or redirect downwardly flowing liquid. In the zone corresponding to the larger amplitude of corrugation, the corner portions 11 of the corrugations are welded or adhered to the adjacent planar sheets 2, whereas in the zone of smaller amplitude corruguations the corner portions 12 are spaced from the adjacent planar sheets to define a free space for the passage of liquid and gas. The smaller amplitude zone is of much greater extent than the larger amplitude zone. The corner portions 11 and 12 of adjacent zone corrugations may be interconnected by a single inclined surface 13 as shown in Figs. 1, and 2 or by a series of triangular shaped inclined surfaces 15 and 18 as shown in Fig. 3. The crests of the larger and smaller amplitude corrugations may be aligned with one another, as shown, or they may be offset with respect to one another (see Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). Additional deformations (not shown) may be provided along the corner portions 12 or 14 of the smaller amplitude corrugations, which deformations project towards and may be fixed to the adjacent planar sheet. The sheets 10 and 2 may be made of plastics material.
