Abstract

1494032 Cleaning extrusion screens PLAST-UND ELASTVERARBEITUNGSMASCHINEN-KOMBINAT KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 3 July 1975 [19 Aug 1974] 28081/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division B1] A screen 10 (e.g. in a plastics extruder) is cleaned by reciprocating and rotating a valved obturator head 13 inside the cylindrical screen 10. Filtered material flow radially outwardly, such that each of a series of helically arranged bores 12 in an upstream screen support is obturated in turn and is reversed flushed into the obturator head along obturator rod 15 to an exit. A cylindrical block carrying all screen and screen cleaning parts is rotatable in housing 1 like a three way plug cock, so that inlet passage 2 can be directly vented to waste 33, Fig. 4 (not shown). The obturator head 13 is moved by a drive wheel 26, which states threaded spindle 22 in a threaded (both left and right hand) nut 23. Switch cam 24 reverses direction at points 25 causing a corresponding helical movements of the obturator head over the bores 12. Material to be filtered enters at 2 passes coarse filter portion (formed by the bores only) and enters the screen interior space (axially directed through holes in obturator head prevent obstruction) and then material is filtered into area 3 and through outlet 4. Obturator head 13 may push larger material cut from the bores towards discharge ports 32) situated at each end 7, 31. Lever 27 may be rotated relative to drive wheel 26 to close a valve (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) in the internal passage of the obturator through which the dirt is back flushed.
