Abstract

1493107 Measuring current; testing dynamoelectric machines REYROLLE PARSONS Ltd 11 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54178/73 Heading G1U The current in each parallel path of a rotating rectifier associated with a brushless electrical machine includes a separate transformer coupling each path to a storage capacitor. The transformer 6 output of bi-polar pulses is rectified 7 and applied to a storage capacitor 8 which thus retains a voltage as long as current flows in the rectifier 3 path. The capacitor output energizes an oscillator 12 whose radiations are picked up by a stationary aerial (31) Fig. 5 (not shown). As each of the n rectifiers has its own oscillator, a receiver connected to the aerial (31) should receive n pulses/ machine revolution. The actual number received is compared (34) to a pulse oscillator (33) output and an alarm (35) actuated if the number is incorrect. The comparator (34) is reset every revolution by a counter which itself is energized by an inductive pick-up detecting the passage of a notch on the machine rotor. The number of components mounted on the rotor may be reduced by multi-plexing any part of the system after the capacitor and transmitting coded signals over a radio transmitter along with other parameters e.g field winding temperature or voltage. At low current values a detector (39) may suppress operation of the output alarm.
