Abstract

1492138 Knitting machines ELITEX 18 Dec 1975 [22 Dec 1974] 51758/75 Heading D1C A multifeed circular knitting machine has knocking-over sinkers each having a nib 2 over whose upper edge stitches are formed and whose lower edge holds loops down in an inactive position on the needle shank and is provided with disengageable cams 8, 9 or 8', 9 and 13 or 13' for raising and lowering the needles to a different extent from normal and for moving the sinkers outwardly so that the nibs 2 are clear of the needles 1 to allow loops to be placed beneath the sinker nibs. In the first embodiment, when a first tubular piece 23 has been knitted in the normal manner, cams 9 and 13 are brought into operation so that the sinker nib 14 is withdrawn and the needle 1 is lowered bring- ing the last course of piece 23 below the level of nib 15, after which cams 9 and 13 are disengaged. The second piece 22 is then knitted, cams 8 and 9 are brought into action and the sinkers are again withdrawn, the needles being raised to lift the last course of piece 23 above the level of the top of nib 14 after which knitting is continued to join the two pieces. In the second embodiment, a pivoted cam 13' is provided associated with a raising cam 8' which latter lifts the needles to a level below clearing level hence retaining the stitches of piece 22 in the needle hooks above the latch. Cam 4 then lowers the needles to pull the stitches of piece 22 through those of piece 23 after which knitting is continued.
