Abstract
1492025 Position encoder MERSEY DOCKS & HARBOUR CO 24 July 1975 [24 April 1974] 49548/73 Heading H3H A system for monitoring container movement comprises a matrix of cables 14 crossing points of which define respective storage locations; a container moving device 16 equipped to transmit a signal to the matrix indicating its position; and a computer to extract the signal from the matrix and compare that position with a container location in its memory. In the embodiment described the matrix comprises underground leaky feeder cables scanned by scanners 17, 18. The energized x, y pair are compared in the computer with a stored derived location and a warning given on a v.d.u. situated at a control centre or additionally in the carrier cab. A lift/lower signal and/or a weight carried signal may also be sent by the carrier, and several carriers may use different frequency signals. Signals are transmitted to the carrier either by radio or via the matrix.
