Abstract
1491506 Furnace carbon black DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 15 Nov 1974 17 Nov 1973 49495/74 Heading ClA Reinforcing and pigment grade carbon blacks of extreme particle fineness and low porosity are produced by the furnace method wherein a feedstock:atomizing air ratio of less than 5 kg.Nm<SP>-3</SP> is provided, atomizing air pressure is at least 4 kp.cm.<SP>-2</SP>, the quench-oil tip interval is between the minimum interval and three times that interval, the feedstock:atomizing air ratio is adjusted to obtain carbon black of average particle size less than 25 nm. and the quench-oil tip interval is adjusted to give a porosity of 1-3, expressed by the ratio of overall to geometric surface. The yield is determined by the ratio of total oxygen to feedstock. The carbon blacks show high abrasion resistance in rubber formulations, and a Nigrometer index of less than 80.
