Abstract
1490465 Alkenyl esters HOECHST AG 16 Feb 1976 [14 Feb 1975] 05957/76 Heading C2C In a process for the preparation of an alkenyl ester of a carboxylic acid by reacting an olefine with the carboxylic acid and oxygen in the vapour phase in the presence of a palladium carboxylate, the concentration of the acid in the feed gas is increased over a period of 1 to 60 hours, from an initial to final concentration in a ratio of from 0À1 to 0À8, and the temperature and pressure are such that there is no condensation of the acid on the catalyst. The final concentration is when the reaction is in continuous operation. Ethylene, propylene or isobutylene may be reacted with acids such as propionic or butyric acids. The palladium carboxylate may be supported on a conventional carrier and activators may be present. The initial concentration of the carboxylic acid in the feed may be from 10 to 80% of the final concentration and the increase may be by continuous or stepwise addition. Examples describe the preparation of vinyl, allyl and methallyl acetate, and allyl propionate and butyrate.
