Abstract

1489062 Improved physiological signal processing RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT SCIENTISTS Inc 7 May 1975 [8 May 1974] 20229/74 Heading GIN(E) A physiological waveform e.g. E.E.G., E.C.G., pulse pressure or heart beats &c. is used as an input signal to frequency modulate a carrier wave which is then amplitude modulated by the absolute value of the input signal. The input signal from the patient is amplified by a variable gain input amplifier 10 and passed via a switch unit 12 to a frequency modulating circuit 18 and an amplitude modulating circuit 20. The two circuits 18, 20 control a relaxation oscillator 22 producing a frequency and/or amplitude which is modulated in accordance with variations in the amplitude of the input signal depending upon the positions of switches 14 and 16. The output of the oscillator is then fed via an amplifier 24 to a loud-speaker 26 and/or an oscilloscope. Further more detailed examples of signal converter circuits are disclosed, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
