Abstract

1488888 Burning waste gases VERFAHRENSTECHNIK BETZ & CO GmbH 16 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 44875/74 Heading F4B In a fume incinerator or after-burner, the contaminated gases are fed through a heat exchanger 5 to enter a central flame tube 1 around a burner 13, the flame tube 1 communicating with a combustion chamber 4 of substantially larger volume than the flame tube at its other end. The heat exchanger lies between the burner and the main combustion chamber, and the flame tube projects beyond the heat exchanger into the combustion chamber. Various forms of heat exchanger providing different paths for the burnt gases and the gases to be burnt may be used, and a by-pass 16 may allow some of the contaminated gases to be fed direct to the flame tube. Two flame tubes may deliver into a single main combustion chamber (Fig. 5), or a single burner 13 may deliver a flame to two flame tubes 1 having separate combustion chambers, Fig. 6. An additional heat exchanger may be arranged in the combustion chamber, which may be physically separated from the heat exchanger, (Fig. 4). Swirl promoting devices 2, 3 may be used at either end of the flame tube.
