Abstract

1488865 Vehicle headlamps LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 10 Dec 1974 [29 Jan 1974] 03980/74 Heading F4R A vehicle headlamp assembly comprises a lamp body 10 having an external mounting flange 11, a rim 12 which surrounds the flange 11 and having an abutment shoulder 13, the lamp body 10 and shoulder 13 being urged together by a number of springs 15 detachably engaged with formations 14 on the rim, a support member 19 fixed to the vehicle and adjustment screws 22, for example, for adjustably mounting the rim 12 with respect to the support member 19. As shown, the synthetic plastics rim 12 is provided with four pairs of hooked projections 14 under which are engaged respective ends 16 of the metal springs 15 which also have an intermediate portion 17 engaging against the flange 11, thus urging abutments 18 on the lamp body 10 into engagement with the shoulders 13. The rim 12 is also formed with respective integral sockets (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), into which is snap-fitted the partspherical end (24) of the screws 22 which also engage the captive bushes 21 mounted on the support plate 19. The spherical end (28) of a post (27) riveted to the plate 19 engages in a further socket (25) in the rim to provide a pivot. The screws may be adjustable from either the front or back of the headlamp, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the rim sockets are replaced by apertured depressions and the engaging ends of the screws are provided with resilient, deformable barbs.
