Abstract

1488446 Automatic hot-drink brewing unit I M D ITALIANA MACCHINE DISTRIBUZIONE SpA 11 April 1975 [11 April 1974] 14993/75 Heading A4E An automatic brewing unit for the instantaneous preparation of hot drinks, especially espresso coffee, comprises in combination a hollow body 6 having a bottom wall with a first opening 7 housing a first filter 9 and a second opening 57 for the discharge of waste solids, a plate 44 movable within the hollow part 46 of the body having a plurality of seats for brewing beverage, the top of the hollow part 46 being closed by a lid 39, a verticallymovable infusion piston 14 passing through the lid and having at its lower end a filter 16, a vertically movable piston 41 for the discharge of waste solids also passing through the lid, the two pistons being pivotally-connected to a single control lever 36 which has a fulcrum 37 on the lid, and means for the synchronized control of the movement of the plate and the displacement of the infusion and discharge pistons. The plate is rotatable about a vertical axis defined by the axis of a pin 45 fixing the plate to the bottom wall of body 6, and has seats which hold bushings 4, 42, 43, 47 in which the drink is brewed, the plate being rotated from a solids filling station, to a brewing station under piston 14, then to a waste solids discharge port 57 under piston 41, by means of a rotating cam 55 with a follower 56 which moves in a cut-out crossed profile 60 in plate 44 thus moving the plate. The cam 55 is driven from a double output motorized reducing gear 59 which drives the control lever 36 in the required synchronism. Hot water is provided from a boiler 18 and passes through a channel 15 to the solids 61, the pressure of the water building up and causing the beverage to pass through filter 9 and vessel 8 and out through spout 10, the waste solids being dried by pressure of piston 14 and suction through channel 15, piston 14 then lifting and plate 44 being rotated to bring the waste solids in alignment with opening 57 for discharge and a new charge of coffee into alignment with filter 9.
