Abstract

1488052 Sample moulds ELECTRO-NITE NV 12 June 1975 [17 Jan 1975] 25156/75 Heading B3F A device for sampling molten metal comprises a two part mould 2, 3 held within a tube 7 by means of a holder 8 which engages the wall of the tube. The mould is located within the holder 8 which is then pushed into the tube 7 until a plug portion 11 of the holder 8 closes the end of the tube 7. The holder 8 may be moulded in one or two pieces and may be formed of ceramic material, phenol-formaldehyde resin, rubber or a mixture of wood chips and a binding agent. It may be provided with ventilation holes (20) in alignment with ventilation holes (21) in the mould. The mould is provided with a quartz inlet tube 6, an inlet chamber 4, and a protective hood 5 which melts on immersion of the mould in the molten metal.
