Abstract

1487834 Razor blades GILLETTE CO 6 Oct 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 43528/74 Heading B4B [Also in Division B3] A blade unit in or for use in a safety razor comprises a blade strip 9 secured to an elongate support member 5 provided with projecting portions which form a means for securing the blade unit in a razor. As shown in Fig. 1 the support is made from a piece of bent, roundsectioned wire having its ends spot-welded at 6 and then flattened in a press so that a blade strip can be welded to a portion 7 of the support; a pair of blade units may be secured together and clamped in an aluminium housing 14 as shown in Fig. 4 to form a shaving unit. The shaving unit may be secured to a handle, Fig. 5 (not shown). In the modification shown in Fig. 10, the strip blade is secured by welding to a flattened length of wire whose ends 31 are flattened and formed with serrations (34), Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), so that they can be pressed into slots 40 formed in a plastics housing 36. In modifications the blade units can be adapted for insertion into a razor frame which includes both a guard surface and a handle or the unit can be permanently secured to a handle forming a composite razor which is discarded as a whole when the blades are worn out.
