Abstract
1486940 Vacuum sewage system WARTSILA AB OY 23 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973] 55394/74 Heading E1C A vacuum sewer pipe 2 discharges through a non-return valve 4 into a collecting chamber 5 with a self-closing outlet 8, the chamber being connectable via a valve 12 to a vacuum pump 7 and to a source 16 of atmospheric or higher pressure. An automatic control 10 linked to a pressure sensor 13 is arranged to maintain a predetermined level of vacuum in the pipe 2 and, when the level is reached, switch the valve 12 so as to connect the chamber 5 to the pressure source 16. The pressure 16 assists in opening the outlet 8. If the level of sewage in the chamber 5 rises too high, a level detector 14 switches off the pump 7 and connects the chamber to the pressure source 16. A delay mechanism then prevents the chamber from being reconnected to the vacuum pump for a set time. Two chambers 5 may operate in parallel, the control 10 alternately maintaining one under vacuum and the other under atmospheric or greater pressure.
