1485332 Graphitic packing material V P CHVIRUK N V KONEVA A A KILKINOV A V DEMIN N N SHIPKOV K A KOSINSKY G M KAMARIAN E E NEMIROVSKY and I N SAMOKHIN 19 April 1975 16273/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] A graphite packing material for ar alkali metal amalgam decomposer consists of from 69 to 35% by wt. graphite and 31 to 65% TiC. The material is prepared by mixing a carbonaceous base material of petroleum, shale coke or graphite, a carbon-containing binder comprising coal pitch, petroleum pitch or phenol formaldehyde resin and from 24À8 to 52% by wt. of Ti in the form of Ti metal, titanium oxide, or titanium carbide, moulding the mixture into shapes, firing at 500‹ to 1200‹ C. and graphitizing the fired shapes at 1700‹ to 1800‹ C.
