Abstract
1483542 Encapsulation FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 23 July 1975 [24 July 1974] 30894/75 Heading B8C In a process for encapsulating water-immiscible materials by complex coacervation, the material to be coacervated comprises a mixture of 100 parts by weight of gelatin, x parts by weight of gum arabic where x is 0<x8#0 and a (100-x) parts by weight of a natural polymer having an electric charge opposite to that of the gelatin and having a cloud point at a pH of 3À0 to 6À5, where a is 0À004#a#3. The natural polymer is preferably a plant mucoid, plant gum, seaweed mucoid, animal mucoid, cellulose ether, cellulose ester, starch ether, starch ester, lignin derivative, nucleic acid or a mixture thereof. The polymer preferably has at least one anionic group, e.g. a -COO-, -SO 3 - or -OPO 3 -- group. The water immiscible material is suitably a natural oil, animal oil, a vegetable oil or a synthetic oil. The coacervation mixture may contain a hydrophilic polymer. Microcapsules prepared by the above process may be coated on to a surface of a sheet support to form a pressure-sensitive recording material.
