Abstract

1483303 Encapsulation FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 23 July 1975 [24 July 1974] 30875/75 Heading B8C In a process for encapsulating water-immiscible material by complex coacervation, the material to be coacervated comprises a mixture of 100 parts dry weight of gelation or a derivative thereof, x parts of gum arabic wherein and a (100-x) parts by weight of a synthetic polymer having an electric charge opposite to that of the gelatine and having a cloud point at a pH of 600 less wherein a is 0À065#a#5. The polymer preferably contains anionic groups such as carboxyl or sulpho groups which may be in a free form or in a salt form. The synthetic polymer may be selected from copolymers comprising acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylamide and derivatives thereof, or may be a maleic acid copolymer, a rosin-modified maleic acid polymer or the hydrolysed product or half alkyl ester thereof. A hydrophilic polymer may be present as an additional component for forming the wall film. There may be prepared a pressure sensitive recording material comprising a sheet support having coated on a surface thereof a layer of microcapsules prepared by the above process and containing a colour-former. Suitably the sheet support is a first sheet and the material additionally includes a second sheet support coated with a layer of a colour developer.
