Abstract

1483527 Cemented tungsten carbides VSES NI I PROEKT INST TUGOPLAVKIKH METAL I IVERDYKH SPLAVOV 6 Feb 1976 04787/76 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] Cemented tungsten carbides are made by reducing tungsten trioxide to tungsten dioxide at 750‹ to 1300‹ C., reducing the tungsten dioxide to tungsten metal at 1000‹ to 1600‹ C., mixing the tungsten metal with carbon black and carbidizing the mixture at 1800‹ to 2400‹ C., mixing and grinding the obtained tungsten carbide with a binder metal selected from cobalt, nickel, iron and mixtures thereof, and mixing the thus obtained powdered mixture with a solution of an organic compound, followed by pressing the mixture and sintering. Preferably both reduction stages are carried out in a hydrogen medium, and the tungsten metal is mixed with the carbon black in a proportion of 6À10 to 6À20% based on the mixture weight. Suitably the tungsten carbide is mixed and ground with the binder metal in a liquid medium.
