Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered hard alloy for a cutting tool material having superior tenacity and wear resistance by sintering hard composite carbide or carbonitride having hexagonal or face-centered cubic system crystal structure together with a binding phase metal.
CONSTITUTION: A hard substance having hexagonal system crystal structure such as composite carbide or carbonitride of W and Mo and/or a hard substance having face-centered cubic system crystal structure such as composite carbide or carbonitride of Mo and or more among Ti, Nb and W is mixed with 5W30 vol% one or more Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo and W as a binding phase metal in the form of powder. 1 part wt. paraffin is added to the mixture and dried to prepare mixed powder, which is then compacted under 2 ton/cm2 pressure amd sintered at 1300°C for 1hr in a vacuum. Thus, a sintered hare alloy for a cutting tool material having superior tencity and wear resistance can be manufactured at low cost without using expensive starting materials such as Ta and Co.
