Abstract

1483044 Emergency running rings A L MOLE 10 Dec 1975 21811/73 Heading B7C A wheel is fitted with an emergency running ring for supporting a tyre on the wheel should the tyre deflate, the ring comprising an annular member 12 supported in spaced relationship to the wheel rim by a hollow support 13 having two axially spaced sidewalls and being of such dimensions that its radially outer extremity is flush or substantially flush with the radially outer extremity of tyre bead retaining flanges 6 of the wheel rim. In the Fig. 1 embodiment the support is of channel-section and has its web 14 supporting the member 12. The support 13 is again of channel-section in the Fig. 3 construction but the sidewalls of the support directly engage the member 12 to define therewith a chamber for containing a fluid under pressure, which fluid is released through a valve 18 into a tyre mounted on the rim should the tyre deflate.
