1482541 A theft protection device, particularly for cashiers, &c J MOREL G MATOUILLOT and G BAULA 16 Sept 1974 [18 Sept 1973] 40326/74 Heading E2X A device for protecting against robberies comprises at least one window unit each of which comprises a window opening, at least one protection plate 7 arranged vertically within a housing 1 below the window opening, means 2, 3 for the guidance of the plate, or plates in the upward direction to close the window opening, motive means for rapidly driving the plate, or plates, in the upward direction, and means 21, 24 for controlling the starting up of the motive means, the plate, or plates being driven by means of an electric motor 20 and a counterweight 15 and the assembly of the motive means being arranged within the housing of the window unit. As shown, a single, and preferably opaque and bullet proof, glass, or metal plate 7 has side strips 8, made of P.T.F.E., or nylon and which are vertically slidable in guides 2, 3 which extend from the base of the housing to an upper ceiling part and which are preferably joined by upper and lower cross bars. The motor 20, connected to the pedal 24 through a connection box 21, is adapted to drive, by means of chain and sprockets mechanisms 19 and 17 and a reduction gear 18. a rotary shaft 11, which is connected by a friction clutch coupling 12 to a coaxial shaft 10, a pair of chains 14, 14 passing round sprockets 13 fixed to the shaft 10, being connected at their one ends to the bottom of the plate 7 and at their other ends to the counterweight 15. The plate 7, when raised by an operator pressing the pedal 24, is cushioned by shock absorbers, not shown. when it reaches its uppermost position in which position a lug, not shown, on one of the chains 14 is adapted to interrupt the power supply 25 and shut off the motor 20. and a spring-loaded catch 26 engages beneath the plate 7. A complex plate 29-32, Fig. 2. comprises a frame 29, 30 over which, on the customer side, is secured a thin metal sheet 31 and which slidingly receives, within its U-shaped side members 29, a thick, bulletproof, smaller plate 32, which is initially held, by releasable fastenings not shown, in the upper end of the frame 29, 30 as shown. when the frame is in its lowered position. When the complex plate is raised the plate 32 remains due to the releasable. fastenings, in its upper end position until a nose 33 thereon strikes a fixed stop integral with the counter whereupon it is immobilized while the frame 29, 30 slides along it to the uppermost position of the sheet 31. Several devices arranged in groups (39), Fig. 5, not shown, can have their shafts 10, 11, interconnected for common drive from a single drive means located at an appropriate position such as one of the offices (37). A glass cover recess (34) Fig. 4 not shown, for the customer to place articles therein, may be provided on the counter.
