Abstract
532,347. Folding doors; door - operating appliances. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. Aug. 16, 1939, No. 23659. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A folding door having hinged panels 11 sliding on upper and lower rails has bracing cables 26, 29 secured at one end to a fixed door post 20 and at the other end to a point 25 at the end of the movable inner door post 21, the cables passing over pulleys 22-25 so arranged that the door is braced diagonally to prevent any movement from the vertical when opening and closing. The doof is moved by wheels 34 running on a track or on the floor, and driven by a power unit within the outermost panel. The power unit comprises a frame 37 resiliently suspended within the panel by rods 39 and springs 40, an electric motor 41, carried by the frame being coupled to the axle 35 of the wheels through a gear box 42 and chains or belts 43, 44, 46. A manually operable spindle 47, coupled to the main drive by a chain or belt 49 is provided. Power is supplied to the motor either through bus-bars disposed in the lower track or through leads disposed on a winding drum. In a modification, the panel runs on a single wheel having a peripheral projection adapted to engage the lower track. In a further modification, the panel is coupled to an endless belt.
