Abstract

1481105 Display and control DOBBIE MeINNES MARINE Ltd 29 May 1975 [18 July 1974] 31807/74 Headings G4H and G5C Valve-condition indicating apparatus includes a plurality of lamps operated in dependence on the condition of a valve and the position of a rotatable member. Fig. 1 shows part of a mimic diagram with 4 members A, each rotatable manually using a diametral bar B to control a respective valve. Fig. 2 shows one such member A, its valve F and 2 limit switches G of the valve. The member A contains 4 lamps L (two shown) visible by virtue of A being transparent or translucent, A also having an upstanding peripheral rim acting as a lens to permit observation from the side. Manual rotation of A operates a switch SW1 using a cam J, and pressing A against a spring K closes a switch SW2. Circuity M (Fig. 2) is shown in Fig. 3 including the limit switches G at MS1, MS2 and the lamps L at 20, 21, 22, 23. When the valve is fully open or fully closed, MS1 is open or MS2 is closed respectively, to give an open or closed circuit respectively via a Zener barrier ZB, to energize a relay RLA or RLB respectively, via a thresholding amplifier AMP1 or AMP2 respectively, the relay energizing a green "open" lamp 21 or a red "closed" lamp 23. If the valve is to be moved to its other position, switch SW1 is reversed, thus de-energizing lamp 21 or 23, energizing a white "opening" lamp 20 or a white "closing" lamp 22, and supplying a control voltage via 10 or 11 to the valve. As the valve moves from its fully open or fully closed position, MS1 and MS2 take the positions shown to connect resistor R10 into the circuit whereby neither amplifier AMP1, AMP2 is producing an output and both relays RLA, RLB are de-energized so neither of lamps 21, 23 is lit. When the limit is reached (fully open or fully closed) MS1, or MS2 produces the state first mentioned with 21 or 23 lit. In case of a short or open circuit in connection with MS1, MS2, switch SW2 is provided to de-energize relays RLA, RLB to permit control using SW1 irrespective of MS1, MS2.
