Abstract

1480766 Bearings; seals F TESKE and L TESKE 13 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 35671/74 Headings F2A and F2B A seal for a rolling bearing comprises a pair of ring members 4, 5 constructed as magnets, and a flexible disc 10 retained in sliding engagement therewith by one or more ferromagnetic non-magnetized retaining members 13, 14 which bear on that surface of the disc which is remote from the ring members. The seal is held in the bearing magnetically with the interposition of a further flexible disc 9. Alternatively, the ring members may be glued to the bearing races. The flexible discs are of PTFE or a non- magnetic metal, and the middle zones have an increased flexibility. The retaining members are of soft iron or steel. The dimensions of the components are such that the magnetic field lines are contained entirely within the retaining members.
