Abstract

1480631 Electrically-insulating impregnated fibre-plastics laminates MICAFIL AG 21 Aug 1974 36829/74 Heading B5N A compressed laminate for insulating electrical machinery comprises an inner dielectrically-strong temperature-stable insulating foil, intermediate tangled-fibre non-woven layers on either side of the foil, and outer thermosetting resin glass-fibre reinforced layers on either side of the non-woven layers, adjacent layers being bonded to each other by thermosetting resin binding agent, the binding agent penetrating only the surface portions of each tangled fibre layer thus leaving a binder-free core portion in each such layer to protect the foil against cracking. Protective fibre layers may be disposed between the outer and intermediate layers. The outer layers may be reinforced by glass fibres, fleeces, mats, fabrics or rovings, the foil may be polyimide, polyhydantoin, polyester, polycarbonate, or polysulphone, and the fibre layers may be calendered or uncalendered papers, fleeces or mats of asbestos, glass or aromatic polyamide fibres. The bonding agent may be the resin impregnant of the outer layers, e.g. phenolic, polyester, polyimide or epoxy resin, or may be a separate adhesive. The following layer combinations are disclosed in Examples: (1) glass silk fabric - glass silk fabric - glass fleece - polyamide paper - foil - polyamide paper - glass fleece - glass silk fabric - glass silk fabric; (2) glass silk fabric - glass silk fabric - polyamide paper - foil - polyamide paper - polyamide paper - polyamide paper - glass silk fabric - glass silk fabric.
