1480585 Locks; non-rotatable sliding bolts HENRY SQUIRE & SONS 16 July 1974 [27 July 1973] 35829/73 Heading E2A A sliding bolt assembly comprises a base member 10 for mounting on one side of a door or the like, a bolt member 21 (e.g. of channel section) guided on the base member for longitudinal sliding movement between respective shot and retracted positions and a finger piece 26 on the bolt member engageable from said one side, whereby on linear movement of the finger piece the bolt may be manually operated; the assembly incorporates a locking mechanism operable by a key (not shown) inserted from said one side. Fig. 6 shows the unlocked condition where levers 14 pivotable on the base member 10 retain a sliding member 29, also on the base member, in a left-hand position by engagement of a stump 31 on the member 29 so that a tail 40 of member 29 fully occupies a slot 44 in the lower limb 45a of a U-section locking member 45. The bolt member 21 may be moved manually through a cover member 32 because a tang 47 on the bolt member is clear of web 45c of locking member 45. When the bolt member is in its shot position, sliding member 29 may be moved to its right hand position by a key, whereby tail 40 is partially withdrawn from slot 44 and locking member 45 is pivoted by cam action at 40, 44, so that web 45c lies in the path of tang 47, Fig. 4. Preferably, in the unlocked condition. Fig. 6, the locking member 45 is held in its inoperative position by engagement of a further tang 49 on bolt member 21 in a recess 50 formed in the upper limb 45a of the locking member. A plate 51 traversed at 51a by the bolt member may be associated with the door edge flange 11 of the base member 10, Fig. 1, for greater security. In a simpler embodiment, not accompanied by a drawing, the sliding member is slidable in a slot extending longitudinally in the bolt member itself and serves as a locking member.
