Abstract
1480209 Conditional instruction execution DATA-LOOP Ltd 3 July 1974 [6 April 1973] 16685/73 Heading G4A In a digital computer each instruction in a sequence thereof is executed only if a predetermined test bit is 0 or, if the test bit is 1, only if a condition register, having a plurality of bit positions each representing a respective condition present in the computer, contains 1 bits in all positions in which a 1 bit is present in a subsidiary word associated with the instruction, otherwise it is skipped and the next instruction accessed. The test bit may be one bit in the instruction itself or a given bit in a predetermined register. Respective bits of the associated word are set in response to conditions within the computer, e.g. the result of a calculation is zero, arithmetic unit overflows &c. The associated word may be preset or may be developed in response to one or more previous instructions.
