Abstract

1480058 Vehicle body construction DAIMLER-BENZ AG 17 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 31699/74 Heading B7B A vehicle has a supporting structure divided along its length into at least two sections having different resistances to deformation and wherein the sections are separated at transverse planes in the region of an axle or axles of the vehicle. A readily detachable form of connection, such as bolts, is employed between the sections 1, 2, 3. The sections 2, 3 may comprise four longitudinal bearers connected together by transverse bearers or metal sheets. Identical cladding parts 8, 9 which cover respective sections 2, 3 adjoin the middle section 1 by a transverse joint 10. The cladding parts 8, 9 may be formed as full width bonnets or wheel-housing arches with a bonnet located between them. Also, bumpers 11 of identical construction are connected to sections 2, 3 by means of shock absorbers (12) Fig. 2 (not shown) which may extend as far as the middle section 1.
