Abstract
1478280 Cathode for electro-forming metallic strands KENNECOTT COPPER CORP 28 April 1975 [31 May 1974] 17505/75 Heading C7B A metallic strand 12 of indeterminate length is continuously electro-formed by electro-depositing metal e.g. Cu on a planar plating cathode surface 20 provided in the form of a narrow closed, e.g. circular or double spiral, loop on a conductive portion of strippable material, e.g. band 30 of stainless steel, Cr, Ti, Re or Mo, masked and defined with insulating material e.g. layer 32 with masking 36 bonded to the sides 30a of the conductive portion in a direction perpendicular to the plating surface, and removing the thus formed strand from the surface. A reverse or double spiral cathode Fig. 3 (not shown) may be formed by winding simultaneously a strip of plating surface material between spacer strips e.g. of resin on a hub (52), Fig. 4 (not shown) from supply rolls (48, 50a, 51a). The band 30, or strips 48, may be coated with oxide e.g. alumina to improve bonding. The anode 28 may be a Pt wire baskets 28a containing metal lumps 29 e.g. of Cu.
